Introduction

Allah has granted us the greatest source of mercy to mankind is the prophet Muhammad peace be upon him, “the mercy to the worlds”. Our beloved prophet Muhammad peace be upon him is the one who taught us how to be good worshipers to Allah. The prophet is our real role model in this world, his guidance works as a torch in the dark, the light at the end of the tunnel. He loved us before even meet us.

Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported:

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) went to the (Baqi’) cemetery and said, “May you be secured from punishment, O dwellers of abode of the believers! We, if Allah wills, will follow you. I wish I see my brothers.” The Companions said, “O Messenger of Allah! Are not we your brothers?” He (ﷺ) said, “You are my Companions, but my brothers are those who have not come into the world yet.” They said; “O Messenger of Allah! How will you recognize those of your Ummah who are not born yet?” He (ﷺ) said, “Say if a man has white-footed horses with white foreheads among horses which are pure black, will he not recognize his horses?” They said; “Certainly, O Messenger of Allah!” He (ﷺ) said, “They (my followers) will come with bright faces and white limbs because of Wudu’, and I will arrive at the Haud (Al-Kauthar) ahead of them.”

Muhammad means to be praised more frequently, at a highly intense level. Sending blessings upon the Prophet peace be upon him is one of the most significant acts of worship in Islam, and it is one of the most beneficial supplications for a person in this world and the hereafter, and it is one of the requirements of loving, venerating and respecting the Prophet peace be upon him.

Allah, may He be exalted, says (interpretation of the meaning) :

“Allah sends His Salât (Graces, Honours, Blessings, Mercy) on the Prophet and also His angels (ask Allah to bless and forgive him). O you who believe! Send your Salât on (ask Allah to bless him), and (you should) greet (salute) him with the Islamic way of greeting (salutation i.e. As¬Salâmu ‘Alaikum)”

Allah Almighty informs us that he and his angels perpetually send blessings and prayers upon the prophet so he urges us to do the same.

  Ways to send praying or (Salawat) to the prophet Muhammad peace be upon him

Transliteration:

Allahumma SalliI Ala Muhammadiw Wa Ala A’ali Muhammadin Kamaa Sallaita Ala Ibrahima Wa Ala Aali Ibrahima Inna’ka Hamidum Majid. Allahumma Baarik Ala Muhammadiw Wa Ala Aali Muhammadin Kamaa Baarakta Ala Ibrahima Wa Ala Aali Ibrahima Inna’ka Hamidum Majid.

Translation:

O Allah, let Your Blessings come upon Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him) and the family of Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), as you have blessed Ibrahim and his family. Truly, you are Praiseworthy and Glorious. Allah, bless Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as you have blessed Ibrahim and his family. Truly, you are Praiseworthy and Glorious.

Transliteration:

Allāhumma ṣalli ʿalā Sayyidinā Muḥammadin wa ʿalā ālihi wa ṣaḥbihi wa sallim.

Translation:

O Allah, send prayers and peace upon Muhammad and his Family and Companions.

The virtue and benefits of sending Salawat upon the prophet Muhammad peace be upon him

1-First and foremost, obeys Allah’s orders, Exalted and Magnificent in the sending of blessings upon His prophet.

2-Cheering up leads to the happiness of the prophet and tenfold rewards.

It was narrated by Abdullah bin Abi Talha, from his father, that:

The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) came one day with a cheerful expression on his face, and we said: “We see you looking cheerful”. He said: “The Angel came to me and said: ‘O Muhammad, your Lord says: ‘Will it not please you (to know) that no one will send salah upon you that I will send salah upon him tenfold, and no one will send salams upon you but I will send salams upon him tenfold?”

3-Allah will send blessings on you and rewards will be multiplied.

The Prophet (ﷺ) said: “Whoever prays for Allah’s blessings upon me once, will be blessed for it by Allah ten times.”

In another narration by Imam An-Nasa’i, the reward exceeds more than receiving tenfold blessings. It also includes the erasing of sins and elevating one’s status in the sight of Allah (SWT) as if removing one from darkness into light. 

“Whoever sends Salawat upon me once, will be blessed by it tenfold, erased by its ten sins, and raised by it ten degrees in status”

4-Proof of love to our beloved prophet and closeness to him both in this world and hereafter.

Narrated `Abdullah bin Mas`ud:

A man came to God’s Messenger (peace and blessings upon him) and asked, “O God’s Messenger! What do you say about a person who loves some people but cannot catch up with their good deeds?” God’s Messenger responded, “Everyone will be with those whom they love.”

Ibn Mas’ud reported God’s Messenger as saying,

“The one who will be nearest me on the day of resurrection will be the one who invoked most blessings on me.”

5-All your concerns and problems will be lifted and reduce Stress and Grief.

The Prophet replied, “Your needs will be satisfied and your sins will be forgiven”. Ubai bin Ka’ab (may Allah be pleased with him), who said; ‘I said, ‘O Messenger of Allah, I supplicate often, so how much of my supplication should I devote to you?’ He replied, ‘as you desire. I said, a quarter of it?’ He said ‘as you desire, but if you were to increase upon this, it would be better for you.’ I said, ‘half of it?’ He said, ‘as you desire, but if you were to increase upon this, it would be better for you.’ I said, ‘two-thirds of it?’ He said again,as you desire, but if you were to increase upon this, it would be better for you.’ Finally, I said, ‘and if I dedicate my supplication in its entirety to you?He said,then your needs will be satisfied, and your sins are forgiven.’

The Prophet will receive and return your greetings by Angels Carry the Salutations.

Abdullah ibn Mas’ood said:

The Messenger of Allah ﷺ said: “Allah has angels who go around on earth, conveying to me the Salam of my Ummah.

Abu Hurayrah narrated that the Messenger of Allah ﷺ said:

who sends Salam upon me, but Allah will restore to me my soul so that I may return his Salam.”

6-It helps your Dua’ and supplications get accepted

God’s Messenger (peace and blessings upon him) heard a man supplicating during the prayer without glorifying God nor sending blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings upon him). The Messenger of God said, ‘You are in a hurry, O worshipper.’ Then the Messenger of God (peace and blessings upon him) taught them. Thereafter, the Messenger of God (peace and blessings upon him) heard a man praying; he glorified and praised God, and also sent blessings upon the Prophet (peace and blessings upon him). The Messenger of God said, ‘Supplicate now, you will be answered; ask and you will be given.

7-Your sins will be forgiven.

Conclusion

May we all recognize and feel the importance and virtues of this supreme act. make sure to take out time daily to send Salawat upon the prophet Muhammad peace be upon him, especially on Fridays.  As we know Friday is the best day of the week. “I love to send plenty of salat upon the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) all the time, and I enjoy it even more on the day of Jumuah,”
