Translation:

Allah! La ilaha illa Huwa (none has the right to be worshipped but He), the Ever Living, the One Who sustains and protects all that exists. Neither slumber, nor sleep overtake Him. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on earth. Who is he that can intercede with Him except with His Permission? He knows what happens to them (His creatures) in this world, and what will happen to them in the Hereafter. And they will never compass anything of His Knowledge except that which He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and He feels no fatigue in guarding and preserving them. And He is the Highest, the Greatest.

Surah Al-Baqarah : 255 ( Ayatul-Kursi )

Introduction

The verse was revealed in Medina one night after the hijra, Ayat Al-Kursi (meaning “The Throne”), which has a high status. Ayat al-Kursi is considered the most prominent and glorious verse of the Holy Qur’an.

it is the greatest verse in the Holy Qur’an. It is likely the most famous verse across the entire Ummah, estimation is that hundreds of millions of people know it by heart. When it is revealed, the Prophet Muhammad – peace be upon him – called Zaid to write it down.

It was narrated that when it was revealed, every idol in the world fell down, crowns fell from their heads, and demons fled. They beat each other until they came to Iblis (Satan) and informed him of that, so he commanded them to search for the matter, so they came to Medina and knew that Ayat al-Kursi had been revealed.

The reason for the revelation of Ayat al-Kursi

It was reported that the reason for the revelation of Ayat al-Kursi was that Moses – peace be upon him – asked the honorable angels: Does Allah sleep? Then Allah Almighty revealed to the angels that they should wake Moses- peace be upon him three times, and not let him sleep, so they did that, then they gave him two bottles.

He held them, then left him and warned him not to break them, so the prophet Moses – peace be upon him – fell asleep, and they were each one in his hand. So, he started to sleep and wake himself up over and over again. Until he fell asleep and hit each one with the other.

he broke them, and this was an example that Allah the Almighty – made to show his worshippers that likewise the heavens and the earth are in his hands, and it was said that the Israelis were the ones who asked the Prophet Moses – peace be upon him – about whether Allah used to sleep or not, so Allah sets these parables to show him (the prophet Moses) the purpose.

if Allah- the Most gracious – was sleeping, the heavens and the earth would have fallen and gotten broken like two bottles.
